This table provides a quick and easy reference for smear test results so that the classification used by the British Society for Clinical Cytology (BSCC) can be directly translated to the Bethesda classification. It also carries direct management recommendations for the woman depending on the result. This table was produced by the Quality Assurance Committee on Cervical Screening and is a useful resource for smeartakers.
The purpose of this document is to explain the managment recommendations provided by the laboratory, which are dependent on the clinical history of the woman.
This chart is of use to service providers in the National Cervical Screening Programme. It shows the abbreviations used in the electronic transfer of information in history files for women throughout the cervical screening pathway.
