Today, in support of World Cancer Day 2015 (Wednesday 4 February), The National Screening Service would like to remind people to take part in its population-based screening programmes:
Women aged 50-64 are encouraged to attend regular free BreastCheck mammograms. More information at www.breastcheck.ie. Women aged 25-60 are encouraged to attend regular free CervicalCheck smear tests. More information at: www.cervicalcheck.ie Women can also obtain a FREE Pearl of Wisdom when they Freephone 1800 45 45 55 #sharethewisdom. People aged 60-69 are encouraged to participate when invited in regular BowelScreen screening, using a simple home test kit. More information at: www.bowelscreen.ie

This year World Cancer Day (www.worldcancerday.org) will explore how we can implement what we already know in the areas of prevention, early detection, treatment and care, and in turn, open up to the exciting prospect that we can impact the global cancer burden – for the better.
The 2015 campaign takes place under the tagline ‘not beyond us’ and will have four key areas of focus:
- Choosing healthy lives
- Delivering early detection
- Achieving treatment for all
- Maximising quality of life
World Cancer Day is a unique opportunity to raise awareness that there is much that can be done at an individual, community and governmental level, to harness and mobilise these solutions and catalyse positive change. By moving forward together we have the potential to show: Cancer. It is not beyond us.
