Today, in support of World Cancer Day 2014 (4 February 2014), CervicalCheck – The National Cervical Screening Programme encourages women aged 25-60 to find out when their next free CervicalCheck smear test is due.
This year World Cancer Day (www.worldcancerday.org)
focuses on Target 5 of the World Cancer Declaration: Reduce stigma and dispel myths about cancer, under the tagline “Debunk the myths”.
Cervical screening is internationally accepted as a preventative health measure. While no screening test is 100 per cent accurate, cervical screening is the most effective method of reducing a woman’s risk of developing cervical cancer.
CervicalCheck is aware that women aged over 50 are less likely to have their smear test. Even if you are aged over 50, have reached the menopause or have finished having your family, you still need to have a regular smear test.
If you are over 25 and have not had a smear test under CervicalCheck, simply make an appointment with a CervicalCheck registered smeartaker (smeartakers details at www.cervicalcheck.ie).
For more information about CervicalCheck, to find a convenient smeartaker or make sure your details are up to date please contact www.cervicalcheck.ie or Freephone 1800 45 45 55.
World Cancer Day is a chance to raise our collective voices in the name of improving general knowledge around cancer and dismissing misconceptions about the disease. From a global level, we are focusing our messaging on the four myths above. In addition to being in-line with our global advocacy goals, these overarching myths leave a lot of flexibility for members, partners and supporters to adapt and expand on for their own needs.
