The National Cancer Screening Service (NCSS) is proud to announce its support for European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, which runs from 19 January until 23 January 2009.
The Europe-wide initiative is organised by the European Cervical Cancer Association and aims to raise awareness of cervical cancer, how it can be prevented and the importance of having regular smear tests.
The NCSS is supporting the Week by providing information leaflets on cervical screening for distribution and including CervicalCheck information with Pearls of Wisdom - the symbol for European Cervical Cancer Prevention week.
The 10,000 specially-commissioned Pearls of Wisdom badges are being distributed among the media, politicians, female celebrities, media personalities, female public representatives, all women that visit an IFPA clinic and community groups including The National Women's Council, Irish Country Women's Association and Family Resource Centres.
CervicalCheck - The National Cervical Screening Programme was established by the NCSS on 01 September 2008 to provide free smear tests to women aged 25 to 60 living in Ireland. Regular smear tests are the most effective method of reducing a woman's risk of developing cervical cancer and eligible women are encouraged to avail of the free screening service.
