Education and Training

Cervical screening education is critical for the provision of a quality assured cervical screening programme. The CervicalCheck Screening Training Unit (STU) is responsible for the development, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of the education and training requirements of healthcare professionals involved in cervical screening in Ireland.

The purpose of the cervical screening education programme is to ensure that upon completion clinicians are equipped with the knowledge, attitudes and skills to competently deliver cervical screening  and promotes a culture of high quality and continuous improvement in cervical screening practice.

The Screening Training Unit (STU) is excited to announce the novice sample takers clinical workshop locations and dates for 2026.

The Clinical Workshop is a key part of the Novice Cervical Screening Education Programme, designed to provide hands-on education & training for those new to cervical screening.

To apply for the course

Once you've completed the workshop, the next steps include:

  • Completion of the online theoretical component
  • Clinical component in your workplace

You must have access to a clinical setting that can provide a cervical screening service.
