In order to provide a cervical screening service, your clinic needs to be registered with CervicalCheck. In order to register, you will need a clinical lead or doctor with clinical responsibility in the clinic who will be a named clinical lead with CervicalCheck, and a named Admin lead who will be the point of contact with CervicalCheck. Please ensure that all sample takers taking samples in your clinic are registered under your clinic code
Important
In order to register as a Clinical Lead or a sample taker with CervicalCheck you will need to complete a mandatory Introductory eLearning module CervicalCheck in Practice in Non-Primary care. This is available on www.nssresources.ie and must be completed prior to submitting your registration forms.

The Clinical Lead must be a clinical lead or doctor with clinical responsibility in the clinic.
In your capacity as Clinical Lead, you will hold the responsibility of providing clinical oversight for all cervical screening tests taken. Your role will encompass several key tasks to ensure the smooth operation and compliance of your clinic with CervicalCheck protocols.
These include:
- Ensuring all sample takers are registered with CervicalCheck and use the appropriate clinic code. Please ensure that the Clinic ID / number is filled correctly on the cervical screening form. This ID number will be used to direct results to the clinic.
- Informing CervicalCheck six weeks prior to any changes to registration details such as retirement, leave, or the appointment of a new Clinical Lead via email to admin@cervicalcheck.ie
- It is crucial that the outgoing Clinical Lead ensures all recall recommendations are actioned and all relevant documentation completed to facilitate a smooth transition. No screening tests should be taken until the incoming clinical lead is registered with the Programme following the resignation / retirement of the previous clinical lead.
- Promoting uptake of the CervicalCheck Clinical update "CervicalCheck in Practice in non-primary care settings" on the eLearning portal www.nssresources.ie.
- Supporting all sample takers to undertake an accredited cervical screening education programme, application details available on www.nssresources.ie.
- Nominating an Admin lead who is a registered ‘Champion in cervical screening’ to oversee the management of cervical screening in the practice, including overseeing sample dispatchment, maintaining a clinic log, and responding to failsafes, etc.

To register a non-primary care clinic with CervicalCheck to provide cervical screening services:
Once the registration process has been completed CervicalCheck will confirm:
- the clinic and the named sample takers have been registered
- The unique clinic code assigned to your clinic.
The Clinic code assigned to your clinic allows the lab to:
- Identify and document where the sample was taken
- Identify who has clinical governance for the sample
- Ensure the result is reported to the correct clinic
- Clinics with a Healthlink ID can receive results electronically
By entering the correct Clinic code on the screening form, you are ensuring the prompt and timely resulting of the sample
The administrative lead will take responsibility for the operational responsibilities of the cervical screening service in your clinic. This will include:
- Ensuring all screening consumables are available and in date.
- Ensuring that all sample takers are registered under the clinic code with CervicalCheck
- Ensuring all new rotating doctors are registered prior to sample taking in the clinic.
- Ensure all rotating NCHDs are removed from the clinic registration after each rotation and all new NCHDs are added.
- Managing the sample log and organising the dispatch of samples within 3 working days of the sample being taken.
- Ensuring results are received and communicated to the woman if abnormal or follow up is required.
- Ensuring all sample takers are aware of their roles and responsibilities in cervical screening.
- Ensuring timely and efficient response to Failsafe letters.
Healthcare professionals who wish to take cervical samples as part of the cervical screening programme must be registered as a sample taker with CervicalCheck under the governance of the clinical lead registered with the programme prior to commencing taking cervical screening samples.

Here, you can:
- Click on the Communication Consent Form if you are not receiving CervicalCheck emails.
- Click on Mandatory Registration Introductory module and select CervicalCheck in Practice in Non Primary Care.
- If you need to complete a Clinical Update, click on the relevant box to explore your options.
Certificate of Completion
Upon successfully completing a Clinical Update, you will receive a certificate with associated CPD points via email.
Details of a health professional (sample taker) or Clinical Lead may be changed/ updated by emailing the CervicalCheck Administration Office admin@cervicalcheck.ie
If you are moving hospitals please submit Registration of Health Professionals in a Non-Primary Care Clinic form with your new updated information.
You must inform CervicalCheck in writing via email to admin@cervicalcheck.ie if you are no longer the Clinical Lead with CervicalCheck at least 6 weeks before your retirement/ resigning date.
Please note you must not take screening tests 6 weeks prior to your retirement / resignation date – this is to allow screening samples to be processed and follow up care organised if required.
All sample taking must be suspended in the clinic until a new Clinical Lead is registered and the clinic has been advised of same by CervicalCheck.
