The National Cancer Screening Service (NCSS) is in the process of establishing a national quality assured organised and cost effective Cervical Screening Programme available free of charge to all women in Ireland aged 25-60. It will be implemented in line with best international practice and launched during the course of this year. In October and November 2007 the NCSS carried out consultations with a variety of interested stakeholders and potential smear takers in primary care settings providing an opportunity to contribute views regarding a nationally based Cervical Screening Programme.
In advance of offering contracts to medical practitioners in primary care settings the NCSS has now published a draft NCSS Smeartaker contract and invites views and feedback from interested stakeholders and potential smeartakers concerning the contract. Closing date Thursday February 28th, 2008.
This will lead to contract finalisation and the establishment of a collaborative working relationship with all Smeartakers.
Interested parties are invited to submit views to Dr Alan Smith, Consultant in Public Health Medicine with the NCSS at alan.smith@cancerscreening.ie .
